Fruit trees and almond trees blossom on the hillside above this farmer and his burdened animal. It’s a typical spring day with just a flash of rain to brighten the road and tamp down the dust.
Much of Portugal is hilly, even right down to the coastal beaches. And homeowners make efficient, careful use of whatever garden patch surrounds their house, underplanting grapes,
olive trees, and vegetables.
