Colorful fishing boats line the beaches of the Algarve in Southern Portugal. The high bow and angled hull make them stable at sea, where waves can be ferocious when the weather changes, or the Atlantic thrusts into the Mediterranean.
In some villages, small fish are dried on standing nets on the beach, before being brought into auction.
